Welcome to Swifts Class. We are a busy class of 6 Key Stage 2 pupils with a diagnosis of Autism. The class is taught by Ann and TAs are Charlotte,  Emily and Charlotte.F.

In Swifts class we aim to continually provide each pupil with a specifically personalised, broad and balanced curriculum tailored to meet each child’s need. Where we aim to reduce each pupil’s anxiety, confusion and fear whilst increasing their ability to communicate with others, to positively engage with and understand the world around them. Learning sessions and specific programmes are planned within a structured learning environment and regular opportunities to meet the pupil’s individual communication, sensory, behavioural, social and emotional needs.

As a class we particularly focus on encouraging both Functional Communication in different ways, as appropriate; Makaton, PECS or speech as well as Independence in activities; personal care and caring for our belongings. We have regular Attention Wiltshire (Bucket) sessions to encourage the development of the skills of shared attention and engagement alongside the usual curriculum activities. We also have regular group and individual workstation sessions covering literacy and numeracy skills. We all attend Forest School, PE, swimming lessons weekly as well as arty sessions where we often get messy with different textures.

The topic focus for this Autumn term is “Traditional Stories” where we have been reading the story of the 3 Little Pigs.
